| Ran was born on the 1st of January 2001 (01-01-01). Her full name is Ran Famke Rijken-Fujihara. In order to be a "real" family we decided to change Yoko's lastname from Fujihara to Rijken-Fujihara as children are added to her family register and therefor automatically get her lastname. As she didn't want to give up her lastname we decided to go the "Dutch" way and change it to both. This we had to do in court, but we succeeded and therefor Ran has a name that is quite a mouthful! In daily life she's called simply Ran Rijken. We decided to raise Ran bilingual so Yoko talks in Japanese and I speak in Dutch to her, but as I only have a few hours of contact a day with her, she does understand Dutch, but doesn't speak it. The reason for us to send her (and Yoko) to the Netherlands for one and a half years. Here she'll go to my old elementary school (the Lemborgh) and she'll experience some of my old teachers as well. Yoko wil also study Dutch during this period. When they come back to Japan (March 2006 or sooner, depending on the stay permit) we'll talk Dutch with eachother inside the house and Japanese when we go out. This way we'll make certain that she'll at least master spoken Dutch. Ran is a strong lady with a strong will of her own. Sharing things she's never heard of! When she was in the Netherlands she shared a room with her cousin (Dylan, also only child) and it seems that they got along fine, but also fought all the time! Ran is going to elementary school right now, but as her dad she already says that she doesn't like school! Makes you wonder about the future! | ||
